2027 Covered California Renewal Checklist: Keep Your Coverage and Financial Help
Review your 2027 plan before it renews. A short review of your income, verification consent, doctors, prescriptions and costs can help you spot changes that affect your coverage or financial assistance.
2027 renewal and open enrollment dates
Existing members can actively renew and report changes during October 1–31, 2026. Automatic renewals begin November 1, 2026. Open enrollment runs November 1, 2026 through January 31, 2027. Review your notice and complete your plan selection early for the coverage start date you need.
Your renewal checklist
Read your renewal notice. Check the plan, proposed premium, coverage year and any requested action.
Estimate your expected 2027 annual household income and confirm your tax household. Update changes in income, household members, address and access to employer coverage.
Check consent for eligibility verification. This lets Covered California use permitted data sources to redetermine eligibility for financial help; it is separate from permission for an agent to assist you.
Compare the premium you would pay after financial assistance, along with deductibles, copays and your annual out-of-pocket limit.
Verify your doctors, medical group, hospitals and pharmacies in the exact 2027 plan network. Check your prescriptions, drug tiers and coverage requirements.
Confirm your plan selection, effective date and any documents or payments still required.
Why verification consent matters
Covered California's 2027 enroller guidance warns that expired verification consent can lead to automatic renewal into an unsubsidized plan. That can affect both advance premium tax credits and cost-sharing reductions. If you receive a request to renew consent, review it promptly and confirm that your application shows valid consent.
Does automatic renewal guarantee the best plan?
Automatic renewal uses the information already in your application. Your income, plan price, benefits or provider network may have changed. Review your options even if you intend to keep the same insurance company.
Orange County and northeast Los Angeles: check carrier changes
CalOptima Health is entering Covered California in Orange County for 2027. Molina Healthcare is leaving rating regions 15 and 18, covering northeast Los Angeles County and Orange County. These changes do not mean Molina is leaving every California region. If your current plan is affected, review replacement options and provider networks before choosing.
If Covered California requests documents
Follow the deadline and instructions in your notice. Residence-address review may require a response within 30 days, and enrollment is not finalized until that review is completed. A separate reasonable opportunity period can give conditionally eligible applicants 95 days to resolve certain eligibility inconsistencies. These are different processes; do not assume every notice allows 95 days.
